John Grant

'Everyone has a favorite band or singer they reckon is subject to criminal neglect. That John Grant’s effortlessly rich, expansive baritone, couched in typically heartbreaking, lush melody, hasn’t found a wider audience indeed drives his fans to consider a crime. But no longer. Because Grant’s first solo album, Queen of Denmark, following three undervalued studio albums (and one similar covers compilation) fronting The Czars, is so undeniably great that the world will surely listen'
And listen they did, with the 'Midlake' produced 'Queen Of Denmark' being named as Mojo's 2010 Album Of The Year. 'Drowned In Sound' was one of many 5* reviews stating; 'His heart is heavy enough to sink ships, but his voice soars like a butterfly. Come hell, high water, volcanic eruptions or rising tides of oil, do not let this music pass you by'.
A move to Iceland to record his second album 'Pale Green Ghosts' with Biggi Veira of GusGUs led to Grant setting up home in the country. Pale Green Ghosts was released in 2013 and was Rough Trade Records Album Of The Year. In 2013 Grant was also named Attitude Magazine's Man Of The Year.
2014 saw John nominated as Best International Male Solo Artist at the BRIT Awards alongside Drake & Eminem and Best Solo Artist at the Q Awards, alongside the eternally missed David Bowie.
Grant's third solo album 'Grey Tickles, Black Pressure' was released in 2015 to critical acclaim and features vocals from Tracy Thorn (Everything But The Girl) and Amanda Palmer (The Dresden Dolls).
Grant continues to be sought after as a collaborator and has recorded with several incredible artists, most recently a duet version of 'Kindling (Fickle Flame)' with Elbow (with whom he will tour in 2018). Other collaborations have seen him work with Susanne Sundfør, Hercules & Love Affair, Vessels & the Russian 'B-2 band'. He has made guest appearances with both Alison Goldfrapp & Kylie Minogue at The Royal Albert Hall.
So 2017 shows no signs of John Grant taking his foot off the gas... he's back in the studio recording what will become his 4th solo album. And then what... ? Well... 2018 buckle up!
